See my previous article at my Newsvine author site about government overstatements about the saftey of the swine flu vaccine--even though I am NOT one of those kook opponents of vaccines.
Now President Obama has declared THE FLU--a perfectly normal flu strain, if a new one, perhaps to the poit of being MILDER than most previous new flu strains--a "national emergency". Do you realize we never declared AIDS a "national emergency"--never even treated it like a real disease instead of a problem in political correctness? We truly have become a NATION OF WIMPS, CRYBABIES, and CYA POLITICIANS.
What is the real motivation behind President Obama declaring swine flu a "national emergency"/ Oh, come on. You know. Just think a second. Of course it is NOT that the Federal Government, or even the Messiah (President Obama), can simply waive a magic wand and make a flu outbreak go away--even though that is what President Obama would like you to think.
No. The real reason behind this is that President Obama and his Administration have FAILED yet again. Remember those promises that we would have enough swine flu vaccine to vaccinate everyone? The Obama Administration made multiple such promises--from multiple members of the Administration and/or the Federal Government. Those promises have now turned out to be FALSE. By the time enough vaccine is available, the swine flu may already have run its natural course (as flu outbreaks do, with or without a "national emergency" being declared).
President Obama is afraid you WILL remember what his Administration told you . As they tell you on everything (yes, including this insane proposed government takeover of control of our health care system), the Obama Administration told you that they "would take care of you"--that the Federal Government was on top of it. One of the famous Big Lies: "I am from the government, and I am here to help you." Remember that President Obama has said he SHOULD be held ACCOUNTABLE for the RESULTS he promises? I know he doesn't mean that, but maybe we should start holding him at his word (instead of continuing to give a pathological liar a pass).
There is a shortage of swine flu vaccine. We have about HALF of the vaccine we were PROMISED we would have. How does President Obama propose to be "held accountable" for this failure? You have your answer. MORE WORDS ("national emergency" my eye).
Let me be clear here. I see no reason to panic over the FLU--a normal flu. I would have had no problem with saying that we would do the best we can to develop a vaccine, but that these things take time and that previous generations had to deal with much worse diseases. But the CYA politician of today will NEVER say anything like that--not wanting to be accused of not FEELING YOUR PAIN. So be it. If politicians are going to overreact, and overpromise then let them be "held accountable" for those overreactions and overpromises.
P.S. As I said in my previous article, I will NOT be getting a swine flu vaccine shot. That is not because I am afraid of the vaccine. Rather, it has to do with what amounts to a personal phobia, since I got a flu vaccine shot--in the 1950s---when they were still new. My arm swelled up to twice its normal size. The shot HURT more than any shot I have ever had. Intellectually, I know that today's vaccine is not the same. Emotionally, I see no reason to put myself through the anxiety. I also said that if I were a pregnant woman--Heaven forbid--I would NOT have the vaccine, since there is no way the effects of the vaccine on a developing fetus could have been fully tested (nine months having NOT passed since the start of the development of the vaccine and putting the vaccine into manufacture). However, there is a caveat. If I were a pregnant woman, I would talk to my doctor (NOT the "government") as to whether the swine flu or the vaccine is likely to carry MORE RISK to my fetus--knowing that both are bound to carry some risk. No, I am not saying that the lief of the pregnant woman herself is not important. Rather, I am saying that I am morally certain that a HEALTHY pregnant woman should be able to handle the flu--especially with vigilance and aggressive reaction to symptoms--always subject to the caveat that I would expect a pregnant woman to consider the opinion of her doctor on the subject more than mine.
P.S. 2: Just think how really BAD the government is!!!! Say you are a physician advising a pregnant woman. Are you going to tell that woman that the swine flu vaccine is absolutely safe? You would have to be crazy to say that. But the govvernment is perfectly willing to LIE to you, both for "your own good" and THEIR own good. Yes, the proper CYA action for a DOCTOR is to tell you that you are balancing risks. But that also happens to be TRUE. It is absurd to suggest that we know that the swine flu vaccine is "absolutely safe". Is it no amazing that politicians are convinced that the proper CYA acton for THEM is usually to LIE? It is time to convince them otherwise.
